Tobi and Catie are Married! {Salt Lake City Wedding Photography}

The two met years ago when Tobi’s family moved to Boise, Idaho.  His family lived there for a year.  Just one year; a mere pinprick on the timeline of eternity, yet that one year would prove to be the catalyst for Tobi and Catie’s happily ever after…

Tobi and Catie, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your wonderful day!

Salt Lake City Bridals

Guess what… I have a new sister-in-law! And, lucky photographer that I am, I got to shoot her bridals.  It’s no secret that for the past few months, the prominent subject in most of my photographs has been my little girl and other kiddos.  It has been a while since I’ve photographed just an adult.  I must admit, it was quite refreshing! I didn’t have to sing The Itsy Bitsy Spider once and she stayed so still!

Catie- you are so beautiful, inside and out! Thank you for being so much fun in front of my camera! You are the epitome of a glowing bride.

Photo Tip Tuesday: Be Your Own Reflector!

A few weeks ago, I told you how to turn your bedding into a reflector.   This week, I’m going to tell you how to become your own reflector! Anytime you know you’ll be doing some photography, throw on a white shirt.  it’s as simple as that. That way you can help bounce light back to your subject.  It may be subtle, but it makes a difference.  And whatever you do, do NOT wear a bright colored shirt or you might find your subject has a strange color cast to them in all the photos.  Unless, of course, strange color casts are what you are going for.  Then by all means, rock that neon yellow!

Photo Tip Tuesday: Shoot During the Winter

This winter has been interesting.  Back in San Antonio, there were loads of places where I could shoot year round, and the scenery would look just fabulous.  In Atlanta, however, I haven’t had time to find those sort of “sweet spots.” So I’ve been nervous about shooting outside during the drab winter months.  The trees are so bare and everything is so incredibly… brown.

I’m happy to say that my opinion has completely changed during January and February when I decided to take on a few shoots in locations I would’ve previously thought were only good for shooting in the spring/summer/fall.  I ended up loving the photos- winter drab and all! I’ve found that the monochromatic scenery really makes the subject pop.  A shallow depth of field seems to be key to making this sort of wintery deadness work.  So here’s my tip: make sure your subject is wearing a bit of color, shoot at a low f-stop, and embrace the drab scenery!
